  2. Years passed. I grew up. I read more. I read about black history. I read about the Black Panthers. I read about Black Panther. I saw how Jack Kirby treated the character as if he were the heir to the great adventure novels and piled the sci-fi and fantasy elements high. I saw how Don McGregor and Billy Graham turned a made-up African nation into a thriving and diverse locale, all while producing work that was decades ahead of its time. I saw how Christopher Priest, Mark Texeira, and others proved that the Panther could work in a book that had just as much focus on sociopolitical drama as it did on comedy. I saw how Reggie Hudlin, John Romita Jr, and Scot Eaton explored the character from a black American point of view and recreated him from the ground up, but still remained true.

Just How Hard is a Black Panther Film, Anyway? - ComicsAlliance | Comic book culture, news, humor, commentary, and reviews

I wrote about Marvel’s (lack of a) Black Panther movie for ComicsAlliance.

So far, the comments tend toward “It’s black people’s fault this movie will never get made, because they’re so hyper-sensitive and something something political correctness something preachiness.”

    Que sorpresa.

This is a good article. Black Panther is such a dynamic character and so much going on. If people wanted to they could do anything with it. And white people will find any excuse not to feature people of color in stuff and do everything in their power to make it our fault.

  3. Black Panther is not gonna get his own movie for a while because

    iamabutchsolo:

    1. A Black Panther movie would have to be set in Wakanda, which is in AFRICA.
    2. Nearly everyone in the movie would be black.
    3. The only white people in the movie would be enemies trying to invade/infiltrate Wakanda, but they would immediately get defeated because Wakanda is the most technologically advanced nation in the Marvel universe.
    4. White studio execs and by extension many white audiences can’t handle a technologically superior African nation being able to take down European/white armies.

    All true tho.
