Don't Let Me Die Skinny
I DIDN’T GO OUTSIDE UNTIL I WAS A MAN
THAT’S WHAT BANE SAID.
“Oh you think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark, I was molded by it. I didn’t see the light until I was but a man, and by then it was nothing to me but blinding. The shadows betray you, because they BELONG TO ME!”
So, from all the stories told about The Child batman *should* have known that The Child wasn’t Bane. He might not known that it was Miranda Tate, but he *should* have known that there was another major player that had yet to reveal themselves.
But wait, sorry, I forgot. Nolan’s Batman can’t deduce himself out of a paper bag.

I wish he wasn’t white. Having seen the movie, it actually really bothers me.

so this happened to me on twitter last night
they never replied after that, I’m a bit sad about it. it’s probably for the best though, I never know what to do when people think I’m just being over dramatic about things that are legit problematic
they’re also whitewashing Bane in the new Batman movie.
WTF BANE, LAY OFF THE BLEACH
See this right here is why celebrity crushes are a bitch. I can (and do) just imagine myself as a reporter (because I have an imagination like that, DEAL WITH IT) sitting down with Tom Hardy and asking him, “So, what do you think if the white washing of your character Bane in the upcoming Batman movie?”
And then I just imagine all the excuses, all the defensiveness, all the colorblind BS, all the racist apologetics pouring from those beautiful lips (because I try to imagine him being all cool and conscious and anti-racist and stuff but the reality is that that is highly unlikely, when’s the last time you just randomly stumbled on a non-defensive anti-racist white guy? (Though I do hold out hope I CAN DREAM but he *did* take the white-washed role)) and it’s all terribly disappointing.

Yes, Chris did basically re-hire the entire cast of Inception. Yes, Tom Hardy is quite short (He’s only 5’9”). Yes, the mask is different. Yes, Tom doesn’t actually weight 300 lbs.
Here’s the thing, though. The cool thing about ~movie magic is that guys like Tom Hardy and Tom Cruise and etc etc…
My biggest objection is the whitewashing of characters of color. Despite all the discussion of biracial Bane having biracial parents, he has always been portrayed as Central American and even when animated, biracial yet obviously Latin voice actors were chosen (by Latin here, I mean both descended from those speaking Romance languages and Central/South American). I really don’t see why it would have been that difficult for Nolan to at least try to show some representation here. If it can be done even when the actors aren’t going to be seen (as in the case with voice actors) it can be done when there is going to be visual representation of a character.
For direction and casting for acting ability I definitely trust Chris Nolan but Hollywood in general has a real problem with taking characters that are obviously POCs and casting white actors and Nolan is no exception (R’as al Ghul, rumors that Marion Cotilliard is going to be Talia al Ghul). It’s not that I don’t want to see Tom Hardy (Shinzon, baby, you’re back!) but there was a better course of action here and Nolan didn’t take it.
