Man With BAC of 0.00 Arrested and Charged With DUI

Jessie Thorton, a 61-year-old retiree, was arrested and charged with DUI in Arizona despite having a blood alcohol level of 0.00. The reason the arresting officer gave to Thorton: “I can tell you’re driving drunk by the look in your eyes.”

If by “evacuation” the writer of this caption meant “forcibly removed from their homes and incarcerated in a concentration camp” then yeah, I suppose they were being evacuated. In 1942 San Francisco what could they possibly have been evacuated from? A raging fire or perhaps a natural disaster of some sort?

Perhaps Gen. John L. Dewitt can clarify things? Here’s his first order forcing Japanese-Americans out of San Francisco, dated April 1st 1942:

Living in the Following Area: All that portion of the City and County of San Francisco, lying generally west of the of the north-south line established by Junipero Serra Boulevard, Worchester Avenue, and Nineteenth Avenue, and lying generally north of the east-west line established by California Street, to the intersection of Market Street, and thence on Market Street to San Francisco Bay.

All Japanese persons, both alien and non-alien, will be evacuated from the above designated area by 12:00 o’clock noon Tuesday, April 7, 1942.

No Japanese person will be permitted to enter or leave the above described area after 8:00 a.m., Thursday, April 2, 1942, without obtaining special permission from the Provost Marshal at the Civil Control Station located at:

1701 Van Ness Avenue
San Francisco, California

The Civil Control Station is equipped to assist the Japanese population affected by this evacuation in the following ways:

1. Give advise and instructions on the evacuation.

2. Provide services with respect to the management, leasing, sale, storage or other disposition of most kinds of property including real estate, business and professional equipment, household goods, boats, automobiles, livestock, etc. 3. Provide temporary residence elsewhere for all Japanese in family groups.

4. Transport persons and a limited amount of clothing and equipment to their new residence as specified below.

The Following Instructions Must Be Observed: 1. A responsible member of each family, preferably the head of the family, or the person in whose name most of the property is held, and each individual living alone must report to the Civil Control Station to receive further instructions. This must be done between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 1942, or between 8:00 a.m. and 5 p.m., Friday, April 3, 1942.

2. Evacuees must carry with them on departure for the Reception Center, the following property:

a. Bedding and linens (no mattress) for each member of the family.
b. Toilet articles for each member of the family.
c. Extra clothing for each member of the family.
d. Sufficient knives, forks, spoons, plates, bowls and cups for each member of the family.
e. Essential personal effects for each member of the family.

All items carried will be securely packaged, tied and plainly marked with the name of the owner and numbered in accordance with instructions received at the Civil Control Station.

The size and number of packages is limited to that which can be carried by the individual or family group.

No contraband items as described in paragraph 6, Public Proclamation No. 3, Headquarters Western Defense Command and Fourth Army, dated March 24, 1942, will be carried.

3. The United States Government through its agencies will provide for the storage at the sole risk of the owner of the more substantial household items, such as iceboxes, washing machines, pianos and other heavy furniture. Cooking utensils and other small items will be accepted if crated, packed and plainly marked with the name and address of the owner. Only one name and address will be used by a given family.

4. Each family, and individual living alone, will be furnished transportation to the Reception Center. Private means of transportation will not be utilized. All instructions pertaining to the movement will be obtained at the Civil Control Station.

Go to the Civil Control Station at 1701 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, California, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 1942, or between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 3, 1942, to receive further instructions.

Wow, move Tiana over one and suddenly all the PoC princesses are in the very back. I mean, did the people that made this lineup not see how racist this appears?

I’m just gonna say that to me it looks like they put them in order of popularity. But sure lets turn everything in existence into some form of racism.

But sure let’s pretend the WoC princesses are least popular in spite of everything that indicates most of them being popular fan favorites, much more so than Aurora or Snow White??

And even if it were true, popularity of merchendise is manufactured in itself. Tired of people acting like certain princesses are associated as princesses more just by chance. It’s because they’re marketed that way! Think of how- even after Tiana came out- WoC princesses are tokenized in any princess merchendise.

If there is more than one princess, and less than six, there will almost always be only one shown. This is one of the reasons Pocahontas is less associated as a classic princess- Jasmine usually ended up being the tokenized character. Even though WoC made up almost half the line before Merida came along, I’ll be on my deathbed before I consistently, or even sporadically, see three of them together when it isn’t  entire group. Even though this happens all the time with the white princesses. (links show examples of marginalizing merchandise) 

So yeah after almost 15 years of doing that since the inception of the princess line, it’s no wonder that the princesses who are featured on every piece of merchandise- because Disney chooses to feature them- become seen as the “classic princesses.” Marketing does not just make use of perceptions- it creates them. People perceive the white princesses as being classic princesses because they’ve been repeatedly exposed to this message, not because it’s a given fact of life. 

It may seem pointless to talk about it to a lot of people, but no one is saying it’s racism in the sense of denial of housing opportunities, jobs, or anything like that. It is, however, a largely subconscious racial microaggression that contributes to a socialized way of viewing PoC as “the other” that are there to “show diversity” and white people, characters, preferences, everything, as the “default.” This happens not only when we refuse to call actions out, but also when we fail to even notice it happening in the first place.

I mean…literally the only Black people I ever saw in that show was one episode where Carrie Footface Bradshaw dated a Black man, and the Black woman who was his sister told her to basically fuck off because she was tired of white women snatching up the good men.

And Carrie wasn’t even about him like that because there was no way the producers were going to let Carrie have more than a one-shot with a Black man.

Also, in BOTH films, it involved them shitting on men…mainly white men, and the only Black people in that film were literally THE HELP. The nannies, the maids, the drivers, the fucking Magical Negro assistant Jennifer Anniston played.

And let’s not forget Lipstick Jungle.

Or Desperate Housewives.

Or Weeds.

Or basically every show centered around middle to upper class white women in which they have any kind of relationship with men that goes sour.

Just saying.
