1). I love Abbie and Crane as they are. I love their characters and their relationship and the chemistry they share, but I don’t ship them. It’s not a racist thing, it’s a realist thing. However, with that being said I think Ichabbie could be very…
When I read this I was just waiting for the “you say your not a racist….that means you are” response. Fact of the matter is no one reading this knows if the person is or isn’t. If your called a racist and you say no I’m not, that only means you’re considered a bigger racist. Being a white chick from the South people ALWAYS assume I’m racist.
Do I think Tom & Nichole are hot? Yes. Do they have great chemistry? Absolutely. Is there that magical “something” between Abbie & Crane? Oh hell yes…and I love it. Every single second of it. But I don’t ship Abbie & Crane for the simple reason that I’m old enough (40 yrs) to remember Moonlighting. I know, they had to do something because Cybill Shepherd got pregnant, but it ruined the whole show. No more will they/won’t they. That great tension..that something, was gone. Same thing with Castle. I still love the show but the tease is not there.Think about X-Files. Everyone watching knew that Mulder & Scully were bat guano crazy about each other.
My opinion (and no one asked for it so there’s no charge) don’t pair them up & keep the tension. It makes for waaaay better TV. You wanna put Abbie & Crane together, wait until the show is ending. The anticipation will have built up & the pay off will be sweeter. My other opinion (still free, and you’re welcome) the OP isn’t a racist. He/she led with the “It’s not a racist thing” because they knew they would be accused & was tryin to head it off at the pass. Then again, I usually take people at their word. Should be prepared to be called a racist too?
The thing is when your statement isn’t racist, you don’t have to lead with the “It’s not a racist thing/I’m not a racist but/etc.” That’s like saying “I’m not a killer, but this sandwich tastes awesome.” You know what’s not necessary? The “I’m not a killer” part of the sentence. You know why it’s not necessary? Because nothing about the second clause of the sentence suggests murder!
Now, if you come up to someone and say, “I’m not a killer, but these knives would make the perfect murder weapon” don’t be surprised that people doubt the first clause. And if you then go on to describe how you would kill someone with these knives, it’s not that people aren’t taking your words at face value. It’s that your words are illogical and inconsistent, and once those inconsistencies are taken into account, it is much more likely that you are in actual killer or at least murder-enthusiast.
IT’S THE SAME WITH RACISM
If you say “I’m not a racist” then go on to say some illogical shit that has no basis in reality and doesn’t take into account you know… REALITY, it’s really not anyone else’s fault that everyone believe you’re a racist.
You said, “People always assume I’m racist.” If this is a recurring problem in your life you may want to sit down and ask yourself if it’s justified, and along with the original poster. Racism isn’t just some internal conflict; it is expressed through word and deed. So if someone is calling you a racist it’s highly likely that they are responding to something you’ve just done or said.
Man, fandom is getting ridiculous. Who am I kidding, it’s always been ridiculous. These people are doing all kinds of mental gymnastics to try to make their bias against Gwen/Uhura/Abbie/Pretty-much-every-Black-female-character-ever logical, which NEVER WORKS. Why? BECAUSE IT’S ILLOGICAL. They will literally accept magic, pseudo-science, bad characterization, and all kinds of hand-waving of plot inconsistencies before they will be okay bw/wm couple on TV.
It’s like, why are you fighting this so hard? People had no problem shipping planets. PLANETS!!!!!! But every time a black woman comes on screen, it’s page after page of pseudo-intellectualpseudo-polite justification for “why these Black bitches need to stay away from my man”. And that is the evidence in itself that this is motivated by racism. They really cannot stand the thought of an imaginary black woman touching an imaginary white man, especially not their favorite.
And then they want to frame it in the “I’m not racist but…”
